I have worked at a summer camp as a one-to-one aid for individuals on the Autism Spectrum; the purpose of this experience was to formulate an inclusive environment so that all campers could benefit from one another while engaging in a meaningful summer opportunity. I am an undergraduate research assistant; the focus of my research is to deduce the implications of eye movements and miscue analysis to better understand the reading process and thus, enhance literacy skills for all students. Through my major, I have taken a plethora of classes that focus on curriculum and the necessary adaptations that must be made to curriculum in order for all students to receive the type of instruction they personally need. I thoroughly enjoy teaching as well as tutoring.

Hobbies:

I am an avid soccer player and dancer; I have engaged in both of these activities for 18 years. Additionally, I enjoy volunteering at various events (Special Olympics, Relay for Life, etc.). Furthermore, I truly enjoy trying new things and learning from others.

I have limited tutoring experience, but I have 20+ hours training experience and know how to teach new material adequately. Additionally, I have held camp counselor positions in the past and am used to quasi-authoritative teaching positions.

As an English major I am incredibly well versed in grammar, various writing forms (i.e. poetry, etc...), and literature genres/eras (especially with classic western lit., romanticism, modern British lit., contemporary American lit., and existentialism) I have also taken several classes focused solely on writing.

I am familiar with AP English Language, AP English Literature, and their respective examinations. Additionally, although less relevantly, I have taken AP U.S. Government, and AP European History. I also, during my high school career, participated in the English classes provided by Syracuse University's Project Advance and am familiar with the curriculum.

I think that tutoring is important for both the student in need of help and the tutor. It's a symbiotic relationship and learning is not a linear process. It requires discussion, motivation, and occasionally a return to the roots of knowledge. Selfish though it may seem, I find that teaching helps me to further my own education. It is also, certainly, rewarding to aid younger students and fuel the fire for their futures.

Hobbies:

I love to read and I write creatively on my own time. I also enjoy kayaking, hiking, cooking, baking, singing (on my own and in our school's premier choir), making miscellaneous art, and cleaning, oddly enough.

My interests truly lie in English literature, and I plan to pursue my MFA and PhD after I graduate next year. It is my goal to get through all the classics before I die, and although I sometimes feel like I've barely scratched the surface, I'm sure that the knowledge I already possess will certainly suffice for any high school curriculum.
