SAT: October 10,2009 Reading:540 Math:570 Writing: 560 *I want to be a tutor because I believe strongly in the power of education in transforming lives, renewing hope, and making dreams become a reality. I believe that students need posititve role models such as myself to encourage and show them the benefits of being educated. Going to school hasn't always been easy for me, but it has always been a priority thanks to some of the role models that I had growing up. I have worked with students before and I am very capable of helping them do better in the areas of Math, Biology, English and History. Classes I have taken: College level: Biology 117,119(For Bio majors), Pre calc, Calculus 1 & 2, US & world History, INTD, media writing classes e.t.c Programs/Awards: Mt Sinai Volunteer Lab Research (Neurobiology Department): Volunteered Participant Assisted in research project dedicated to understanding the function and the role of the brain in constituting diverse responses as a result of different chemical secretion within the body. Performed several preps on the exterior crop of the Californian sea slug where I noted the effects of several peptides (Serotonin, Norepinephrine, Caffeine, and Nicotine) on its reaction. NYU School of Medicine High School Fellows Program: Program Member Took part in a yearlong program aimed at introducing minority students into health care professions. The spring was dedicated to SAT tutorials, and forming bonds with our med-school mentors. During the summer I shadowed health care professionals (including Surgeons, horticultural therapists, Physical therapists, urologists, and neurologists’). In addition to that I participated in a community based project where I examined the risks of tobacco on health, and how to reduce these risks especially among youths. The fall is dedicated to the college process, which includes filling out applications for colleges, scholarships, and financial aids. SUNY Geneseo Residence Life: Resident Assistant I am currently a Resident Assistant in Jones Hall. I have organized several programs including one for Invisible Children. I am currently working on a program that focuses on the importance of sleep for students.
